Here is my personal recipe for happiness:

  1. DB Mobility BahnCard 100
  2. iPhone 3G 8GB
  3. Move to Berlin
  4. Get a dog
  5. Achieve personal bliss

Hey, I’m not in Berlin yet. Just weekends at the moment :(
If I ever manage to move to one place completely, I might have time for a dog. The decision will have to wait until then, though.

And an iPhone? Oh yes! Besides, with all the traveling I do inside Germany at the moment, I will really appreciate its 3G Internet access. But I want one anyway, no matter what features it has…

I won’t be able to set up a contract with T-Mobile (ugh…) before my new Aufenthaltsgenehmigung goes through. That will probably be in January.

  3. paying the iphone bill may not be part of those steps :)

Andy, I don’t think that the iPhone is expensive at all! Not if you compare its features to other phones and their plans. Sure, if all you want to do is make calls and send SMS messages, the iPhone is too much for you. But for the Internet access all the time, all over the country? In this case, T-Mobile’s fee is worth every penny. Every day, I travel in trains from between two and six hours. This will increase my productivity a lot. And I *can* put a price on that.

  5. … you only know where you are going if you know where you come from (quote of the day from the board of an italian restaurant at the corner Kreuzbergstrasse/Großbeerenstrasse in Berlin-Kreuzberg, trying to bring some savoir de vivre to whining Berliners – coinciding with your post, Dan; The list is a great idea, here is a personal one)
    1) bicycle with working front light
    2) CD-Player in the car
    3) moving to another bureau near Bergmannstrasse
    4) skip the dog … try children. They smell too, but only on occasion.
    5) Listening to Fugazis THE ARGUMENT on full volume while driving – CD-Player already installed.

    Thanks for the list, Hans!

Kids? Well, maybe kids and a dog. I think that a dog might be a more realistic first step for me…
